Uncover the Wild – Sri Lanka Safari Wildlife, Culture, and Beach Adventure.
Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a
representative of Wonderscapes Travels or your personal tour guide. You will then be
transferred to the capital city of Colombo.
After checking in to your hotel, take some time to relax and recover from your journey. If
time permits, your chauffeur guide will introduce you to some of Colombo’s notable
attractions, including the vibrant markets of Pettah, the historic Fort area, the Hindu
Temple at Sea Street, and the Dutch Church at Wolfendhal. Alternatively, you may choose to
enjoy a bit of shopping in the city.

After a scrumptious breakfast, head to Minneriya National Park. Spanning approximately 8,889
hectares, the park forms part of an elephant corridor where hundreds of these majestic
animals gather around the reservoir to drink, feed, and play. While smaller herds can be
seen throughout the year, the period between May and October is the best time to witness the
famous Elephant Gathering.
In addition to elephants, the park is home to 23 species of mammals, including leopards,
sloth bears, sambar deer, and buffalo, as well as over 170 species of birds.

After a scrumptious breakfast, visit one of Sri Lanka’s most famous UNESCO World Heritage
Sites – the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Dating back to the 5th century AD, this ancient royal
citadel was built by King Kashyapa (477–495 AD). The fortress complex features moats,
ramparts, and beautifully landscaped gardens, including the renowned water gardens. During
your climb, you will see the famous Sigiriya frescoes, the Mirror Wall, and the impressive
Lion’s Paw entrance leading to the summit, where the ruins of the royal palace and panoramic
views of the surrounding countryside can be enjoyed.
Later, transfer to Nuwara Eliya, one of the island’s most popular hill country retreats.
Known for its cool mountain climate, misty landscapes, and lush green valleys, the town
offers a refreshing escape from the lowland heat. Sri Lanka’s highest mountain,
Pidurutalagala (8,282 feet), is also located here. While in Nuwara Eliya, you may visit a
local golf course, one of the finest 18-hole courses in South Asia, for a relaxing
experience amidst scenic surroundings.

After a scrumptious breakfast, From the cool hills of Nuwara Eliya, descend to the wilderness of
Yala National Park. Yala is famous for the Sri Lankan leopard, a unique subspecies found only on the
island, and is believed to have one of the highest leopard densities in the world. The park is also
home to several of Sri Lanka’s iconic wildlife species, including elephants, sloth bears, sambar
deer, and crocodiles.
In the evening, enjoy an exciting jeep safari with a naturalist guide, where you may have the chance
to spot these magnificent animals along with many other species that inhabit the park.

After a scrumptious breakfast, begin your wildlife adventure with Birdwatching at Bundala National
Park. This unique landscape of thorny scrub jungle, sandy beaches, dunes, and lagoons supports a
rich biodiversity, including over 190 species of birds and 30 species of mammals.
In the evening, explore the vast wilderness of Yala National Park on an exciting jeep safari.
Accompanied by an experienced naturalist guide, you may have the chance to spot some of the park’s
most famous residents, including elephants, leopards, and sloth bears. Other wildlife commonly seen
includes wild buffalo, crocodiles, sambar deer, spotted deer, mongoose, langurs, and peacocks.

After a scrumptious breakfast, Visit the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home (ETH), established in 1995
by the Department of Wildlife Conservation. The facility rehabilitates orphaned elephant calves with
the goal of releasing them back into the wild. Located near Udawalawe National Park, the center also
features an educational information center and viewing platforms where visitors can watch the
elephants being fed.
Then set off to Udawalawe National Park, one of the best places in Sri Lanka to observe wild
elephants, with an estimated 600–700 elephants inhabiting the park. With its rich diversity of flora
and fauna, many other species also thrive here, although leopards and sloth bears are more difficult
to spot due to the open terrain.
The park also serves as the catchment area for the Udawalawe Reservoir, an important water source
for the surrounding region. Break for lunch and later enjoy an evening jeep safari through the park,
offering further opportunities to observe wildlife in their natural habitat.

After a scrumptious breakfast, continue your journey to Sinharaja Rainforest, Sri Lanka’s last
surviving tropical rainforest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Renowned as one of the best
birdwatching destinations in the world, Sinharaja is home to over 400 recorded bird species,
including many resident and endemic varieties found only in Sri Lanka. Over 60% of the flora is
endemic, and more than half of Sri Lanka’s endemic mammals, butterflies, reptiles, insects, and rare
amphibians can be found within this ecosystem.
During your stay, enjoy guided nature treks in the morning and evening, offering a wonderful
opportunity to experience the unique beauty and biodiversity of this natural treasure.

After a scrumptious breakfast, leave the rainforest and head to the coastal city of Galle, the
historic capital of Sri Lanka’s south. As the island’s oldest living city, Galle is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site where a vibrant community continues to thrive. Stroll along cobbled streets lined with
Dutch-colonial buildings, ancient mosques and churches, grand mansions, museums, stylish cafes, and
boutique shops, all complemented by beautifully restored villas and hotels.
In the afternoon, explore the Galle Fort and its historical attractions at leisure, and perhaps pick
up some souvenirs along the way.

After breakfast, set off to Mirissa for an early morning expedition to encounter the gentle giants and playful acrobats of the ocean – whales and dolphins. Pods of dolphins may even follow your boat, leaping and dancing as you head toward the deeper waters, home to blue whales and sperm whales. Sri Lanka is considered one of the best places in the world to see both species, so you may be in for a truly memorable experience. Return to shore to rest and relax after your ocean adventure.
